Defining Results – Disappointed, But Not Discouraged

Defining Results – Disappointed, But Not Discouraged

We didn’t get our two percent last night.

So what!

The reasons I ran for governor haven’t changed. Iowa has still lost two Congressional seats in the past 20 years. Our education system is still in real trouble. Poverty in urban and rural Iowa is still unacceptably high.

And last night, corruption prevailed over accountability.

I’m going to take a few days off to rest, go see my daughter’s performance at UNI, take care of some housekeeping duties literally and figuratively, eat some food that’s bad for me.

And then …

What lesson can a penny teach us?

What lesson can a penny teach us?

A small group of disciplined, principled and dedicated Americans can bring about the change required to live in a free and open society, where justice and liberty prevails.
On Feb. 28, 1854, a movement was born in Ripon, Wisconsin when about fifty abolitionists gathered with the expectation they would change a nation.
They faced a formidable foe, lacked the technology we possess today, and were most important, unincumbered by the excuses that so often paralyze us when facing opposition – great and small.
Six years after they gathered they elected the …

Register Can’t Endorse Either Bad Choice

Register Can’t Endorse Either Bad Choice

The fact that neither major party candidate is suited to lead as governor has been validated by the Des Moines Register’s inablity to endorse either one.

“While Branstad’s re-election has an air of inevitability, that’s more because he is blessed with a weak opponent than because his record suggests he deserves another term. Indeed, there are many reasons why he does not deserve re-election.”

“Even many of his fellow Democrats are not passionate about Hatch’s candidacy. For the most part, his campaign is weak on specific policy issues and …

Branstad Funding Our Campaign?!

Branstad Funding Our Campaign?!

[Posted by Jonathan on Facebook]

Last night I stopped at Smokey Row in Des Moines in my quest for an Oatmeal Raisin cookie.
I also got a chicken caesar salad, and it was delicious. While there I ran into a gentleman I hadn’t seen for a while. He’s a passionate community activist and a Democrat. As we chatted he asked me directly “is your campaign being funded by Terry Branstad, that’s what Jack Hatch told me?”Now this is not the first time I’ve heard this. I was even …

A Potent Tool for Reform: Narcisse and The Iowa Party

If you’re an independent candidate for governor in Iowa, you know you’re getting traction when your message earns the support of county chairs from both major parties across the state. Your campaign must be striking powerful chords when you get endorsements from both conservative talk-radio hosts and liberal-activist leaders alike.

Jonathan Narcisse is running for governor again. (I have volunteered for and contributed to his campaign.) And if he garners …

An Accountability & Watchdog Party

An Accountability & Watchdog Party

Narcisse says he needs two percent of the popular vote to launch the Iowa party as an official political party in the state.

Malfeasance, Sloth or Incompetence?

Malfeasance, Sloth or Incompetence?

by Jonathan Narcisse – September 26, 2014

During my time on the Des Moines School Board I became painfully aware The Des Moines Register lacked a general interest in facts, data and empirical evidence. They had an agenda, and if the truth had to be sacrificed in subjugation to that agenda, it was slayed enthusiastically.

At the time I assumed their constant embrace of the irrelevant, inaccurate and blatantly false was malicious.

As I travel the state speaking with publications in all 99 counties, relevant and healthy discourse …
